Alderman Knight Students Get a Taste of the Construction Industry at Launchpad Students from Alderman Knight School in Tewkesbury spent a day having a taste of the Construction and Built Environment industry courtesy of a partnership between Gloucestershire College, Gloucestershire Launchpad and Speller-Metcalfe Ltd. Construction contractors Speller-Metcalfe are currently building new school facilities at the Alderman Knight School in Tewkesbury and were keen to give the students an experience of life on a building site. This was achieved by arranging a day at Gloucestershire Launchpad to allow the students to have a taste of bricklaying for themselves. The teaching team consisted of Craig Bloxsome from Gloucestershire College, Adrian Speller, Curt Bayliss and Tom Duke from Speller-Metcalfe. By the end of the day all the students had achieved their goal of constructing a brick wall consisting of sixty bricks, and they still had the motivation to clean up the workshop as well! All the students agreed that the day had been a fun and enjoyable experience, as did the teachers who have pledged to undertake similar projects in the future. The visiting pupils from Alderman Knight thoroughly enjoyed the day and have asked that the link be repeated. Supporting staff from Alderman Knight would like to thank Speller- Metcalfe Ltd , especially Adrian who supplied every pupil with a set of safety footwear and Tom and Kurt from the building team . Craig from Launchpad and The Speller-Metcalfe team made this such an enjoyable and memorable day for us all. The whole experience was so positive for everyone involved . |
