What will I study?

This is an exciting opportunity to obtain and introduction into a number of different trades – bricklaying, carpentry, painting and decorating and plastering. This opportunity to sample all four trades gives you a broad range of skills that are useful in the construction industry, and also helps you to decide which one of these areas you would like to specialise in at a higher level.

Having a range of skills makes you more employable and offer variety whilst you are studying.

You will be assessed throughout the course by the specialist tutors and you will put a portfolio of evidence together to support the skills you have undertaken. Specialist careers advice will be available from our staff throughout your course.

We offer superb, industry standard facilities with state-of-the-art workshops and modern classrooms, all of which are fitted with interactive white boards.

Past students say that they have enjoyed the experience, and generally move on to further training or into a job within the construction industry.

What do I need to get onto the course?

You will be asked to attend a half day selection process where you will undertake a range of activities to check your suitability for the course.

What can I do after the course?

On successful completion you will be able to specialise at a higher level in one of the four trades you have been working on. These include:

  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry
  • Plastering
  • Painting and decorating

There are three core modules that are common to all of the trades relating to the effective communication with others, building methods and safe working practices. You will then undertake a further five modules that are trade specific. The assessment for these qualifications is ongoing throughout the course to check your skills and understanding.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Students will need to wear suitable protective clothing and toe-capped boots or shoes.
