Hairdressing Level 2 PDF Print E-mail

What will I study?

Hairdressing is a dynamic and exciting industry, in which you can really show your creative flair. The industry never stands still so there are always new techniques to learn. As part of your course you will have the opportunity to be involved in competition work, and previous students have won competitions both regionally and nationally.

The staff are all experts in their field and have worked within the industry, so you will be trained to the highest standard, exploring the latest fashions.

You will be assessed throughout your course, both on practical and theory, and you will carry out the practical elements to achieve the following:

  • How to cut hair into a range of basic styles
  • How to apply and select colour to enhance styles
  • To introduce permanent curl to the hair for an alternative look
  • To be able to select appropriate shampoos and conditioners to keep the clients hair in the best possible condition
  • Learn how to promote aftercare products so clients can style their own hair at home between treatments
  • Ensure you are carrying out all these treatments safely.

You will be working in state-of-the-art facilities, which provide a working environment at the same level as external salons. We have a client base that support the work you do, so you will be performing salon treatments on external clients.

Past students have said:
‘This course has changed my life and I have found a job with the help of the College. I am now coming back to do my Level 3 qualification part-time.’

‘Not only have I learnt how to be a hairdresser, I have grown in confidence and made some great friends.’

What do I need to get on to the course?

Successful completion of a Level 1 in hairdressing or a grade A*–C in English Language.
You will be required to attend an interview. Learners need to demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for the course.

What can I do after the course?

This qualification will enable students to seek employment within the industry. Successful students may be able to progress to a Level 3 qualification through a range of different routes and supportive evidence. It is recommended that immediate progression is made to Level 3 qualifications which will enable the student to become more employable at a higher level.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Students will be required to purchase a hairdressing kit and uniform at the beginning of their course. Materials fees will also apply. External curriculum activities are planned such as trips to trade and industry exhibitions/shows.

There is also an element of work placement included in this course.
